Transferring Credit
Transferring credit from accredited North American institutions
The signature of the History Department chair is required on the appropriate form provided by the registrar's office. Email this form to the History Department chair, Pippa Holloway, at phollowa@richmond.edu. You should also provide a copy of the course syllabus.
- For Field of Study Historical Studies (FSHT)/Area of Historical Inquiry (AIHS) credit:Approval depends on the course meeting FSHT/AIHS criteria. Please note that no online course or community college courses will be approved for this requirement. Courses taken elsewhere for the FSHT/AIHA credit are not automatically approved even if the course is taught in a history department. To be approved, the course syllabus must clearly demonstrate that students have read and analyzed primary sources in a historical context, have worked critically with multiple historical methods and interpretations, and will have done enough graded analytic historical writing on primary and secondary sources to demonstrate their progress toward learning to do their own evidence-based historical analysis and argumentation.
- For credit toward the degree: Courses transferring at 0.7 units and above will be counted as a full unit for purposes of the major.
- For elective credit towards the degree: The History Department chair may approve courses that count toward the required degree credits but do not count for a major or minor. These are most likely to be transferred in as HIST 199.
