Transferring Credit

Transferring credit from accredited North American institutions

  1. For elective credit toward the degree. The signature of the history department chair is required on the appropriate form provided by the Registrar. Providing a course syllabus and a sample paper or completed assignment will speed assessment of the course's level (100, 200, etc.)
  2. For Field of Study, Historical Studies (FSHT) credit. The Registrar's transfer form must be filled out and the required material provided to the history department chair. Approval depends on the course meeting FSHT criteria. Please note that no online courses or community college course will be approved for this requirement. To be approved, the course syllabus must clearly demonstrate that students have read and analyzed primary sources in a historical context, that students have worked critically with multiple historical methods and interpretations, and that students completing the course will have done enough graded analytic historical writing on primary and secondary sources to demonstrate their progress toward learning to do their own evidence-based historical analysis and argumentation.
  3. For credit toward the history major. The signature of the history department chair is required. Courses transferring at 0.7 units and above will be counted as a full unit for purposes of the major.
