Scholarships & Awards

The following scholarships and awards are given annually to majors in the Department of History. Students are eligible to apply after their first year at Richmond. If you are applying for more than one scholarship, please do so on one form. The form indicates which boxes you should check. Applications for these scholarships are due April 1 for the following academic year.

The Helen G. Stafford Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded on the basis of merit and financial need to a Westhampton College undergraduate history major.

The Jacob Billikopf Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded on the basis of merit and financial need to a Richmond College junior or senior history major.

The Harry M. Ward Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded on the basis of merit and financial need to a University of Richmond history major, with a preference for a student concentrating in American history.

The Maude Howlett Woodfin-Susan Lough Grant For Graduate Study
This grant is for a Westhampton College history major doing graduate work, preferably in history, but also in such allied fields as archaeology, area studies, library science or law. It is awarded on the basis of academic excellence, potential for successful completion of graduate study and financial need. The applicant must be accepted for post-graduate study. The grant is renewable upon application for up to three years.

The Spencer & Margaret Albright Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded on the basis of financial need to a University of Richmond junior or senior history major.
